IP Blocking
Discover more about IP blocking, why it can be so helpful and when to use it.
If you see a large increase in the traffic to your site and if after you check the visitor statistics it turns out that it comes from locations across the world or from other servers, your website is most likely being attacked by an automatic bot. Such programs go through random sites trying to log in to their admin area using a brute-force attack or to leave spam comments below every article where such an option is made available. However, that is something quite frequent these days, but if you know the IP addresses through which the attacks come, you could block them, so the bots will be unable to access your website in any way. Naturally, you are able to block IPs even if you allow only people from certain countries to access your Internet site.

IP Blocking in Shared Web Hosting
Our
Linux shared web hosting packages provide an IP blocking tool, so if you'd like to limit the access to your Internet sites, you'll be able to do this with only several clicks. The tool is part of the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with all accounts and which is very simple to use. As soon as you log in and check out the IP blocking section, you'll just need to pick a domain or a subdomain hosted inside the account and type in the IP address which needs to be blocked. Our system allows you to block entire networks too, so if you input 123.123.123., for instance, this shall block all IP addresses between 123.123.123.1 and 123.123.123.255 from accessing your sites. In case you wish to whitelist an IP at some point, you may unblock it with simply a click from the same section.

IP Blocking in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you host your Internet sites in a
semi-dedicated server account with us and you would like to block one or several IP addresses at some point, you may leverage the easy-to-use blocking tool, which we've included in our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP. With a few mouse clicks, you'll be able to block specific IPs or whole ranges, if required. All you'll need to do is choose any of your domains or subdomains from a drop-down menu, choose if the blocking must be valid for the root folder or for a subfolder that is part of the site, and then enter the IP address that you'd like to block. For an IP range, you just have to omit the last octet or the last 2 octets of the address based on the size of the network which you want to block. All of the addresses that you've restricted shall be listed within the same section and if you would like to whitelist any one of them, you'll be able to do it with just a click at any time.
